Constructive feedback can help to improve productivity and boost your team’s morale, but do annual performance reviews do the same?

An article by Elizabeth Harrin on Projectmanager.com thinks the answer is no.

“Nearly 60% of companies report that annual performance reviews are not a good use of time, according to research published by Deloitte University Press. Over half reported that their existing performance management processes don’t drive staff performance or engagement.”

She outlines some interesting points around why annual reviews simply aren’t effective, such as they are subjective and not about the team, and goes on to provide useful alternatives like more regular feedback that is based on each individual.
